TexAnns 2-0 in conference play after defeating ASU

The Tarleton State University TexAnn basketball team played their second game of Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 8 against Angelo State University. The TexAnns were able to add another win to their season to make their overall season record 11-1 and their LSC record 2-0.

The first half started with a 5-0 Tarleton run triggered by a 3-pointer by Kathy Thomas. Tarleton was able to keep the lead for most of the first half until a free throw by ASU made the score 21-20 with 7:57 left in the first half.

ASU managed to get only a five-point lead before Tarleton got it back with a 3-pointer by Thomas with just 1:03 left before the half.

ASU started off the second half by adding two to their score, once again bringing the game to a tie. A layup by Kiara Wright started a 15-3 TexAnn run and gave Tarleton a 12 point lead with 14:11 left to play.

ASU fell behind 17 points before coming back into single digit scoring difference with 5:02 left.

Tarleton managed to take the win with a final score of 74-56.

Thomas was able to score a career-high 20 points. Wright also added 20 points to the TexAnns’ score and managed her 45th career double-double with 15 rebounds.

Brianna Bledsoe scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, Shanae Lowrance and Karli Moore added seven each, and Morgan Ashmore and Raven McGrath each had three.

The TexAnns’ next game is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Hampton Inn Court in Kingsville.
