Texans dominate in San Angelo

Tarleton State University Texan basketball team traveled to San Angelo for a critical Lone Star Conference Matchup against the Angelo State University Rams. The Texans defeated the Rams, 72-64.

The Texans, coming off a fight to the final second overtime win against Cameron University, were looking to not only extend their winning streak against the Angelo State University Rams, but to sweep the Rams in their Lone Star Conference matchups.

From the beginning, the Rams made sure it wouldn’t be an easy win for the Texans. For each shot the Texans made, the Rams had one to match it. The Texans, however, showed the Rams no mercy and were up by as much as 13 during the first half. After a late surge by the Rams, the Texans 30-28 at the half.

When the Texans returned for the second half, they were determined to win, leading the Rams by as much as 15 in the second half. The Texans never let off their pressure against the Rams and easily rolled past 72-64.

Senior Guard De’Andre Upchurch led the Texans with an impressive 19 points in 29 minutes. Senior Guard Chuck Guy was the undisputed playmaker for the Texans, leading the team in minutes played with 35 minutes and contributing 18 points and seven assists. Noticeably missing from the stat board for the Texans was Senior starting Forward, Jon Cathey-Macklin, who played only 12 minutes and had two points in the Texans winning effort.

The Texans look to extend their winning streak at home against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Wisdom Gym at 7 p.m on Saturday.
