TexAnn offense shines in sweep over Texas A&M-Kingsville

The TexAnn volleyball team swept Texas A&M-Kingsville Tuesday night to give Tarleton State University its first winning sweep since Oct. 5.

The TexAnns had a  strong offense, with a .282 hitting percentage while the Javelinas had just a .159 hitting percentage.

In the first set the Javelinas took an initial 3-point lead over the TexAnns at 11-8. An attack error gave the TexAnns momentum, and they started on a 6-2 run to take the lead 15-13.

Texas A&M-Kingsville came back to tie the set at 17-17, but the TexAnns came back with an 8-3 run, ended by a Stacie Murrah kill to take the opening set 25-20.

In the second set, the TexAnns’ hitting percentage was the lowest of the match at .163. Tarleton managed to fight back from 11 errors and being down 19-15 to tie the set at 24. Kelsey Raglin and Murrah then landed back-to-back kills to win the set 26-24 and go up 2-0 in the match.

The Javelinas were unable to make a run in the final set of the match, and could not put together more than two consecutive points. Jasmine Green ended the set at 25-20 with a kill, completing the sweep for the TexAnns.

Murrah led the team with 17 kills, and had a .379 hitting percentage. Green was right behind her with 12 kills, and a team leading .526 hitting percentage.

Danielle Barker had 48 assists and nine digs, while Emily Klein added 14 kills as well. Raglin and Katie Covell added 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The TexAnns will be traveling to Portales, NM to take on Eastern New Mexico University this Saturday at 7 p.m.

Tarleton is now 14-10 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
