TexAnn volleyball season recap

The TexAnn volleyball team has had some ups and downs this season finishing 15-13 overall and 8-8 in conference.

“We’ve had some things not go the way we would have liked this season, but this group of girls continues to fight as hard as they can every time we go out there, ” said head coach Mary Schindler. “This is such a great, talented group of girls and I believe we have the talent to compete with any team in the country. We’ll look to finish strong at the LSC Championship Tournament.”

The last game of the regular season against Angelo State University secured at least the No. 5 spot for Tarleton in the LSC Championship Tournament Nov. 21 -23.

The TexAnns had not beaten the Rambelles since 2006, including a game earlier this season, October 12, where ASU swept Tarleton.

The TexAnns had dominating performances against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Cameron this season. Tarleton won the first match against Kingsville in four sets, and then later swept them at home. Against Cameron, the TexAnns won the first game 3-1 and beat them in five sets in their second match up.

Several TexAnns were honored this season. Danielle Barker won LSC Co-Setter of the Week twice this season, while Emily Klein won LSC Player of the Week twice this season as well, Stacie Murrah was also recognized twice as LSC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

The TexAnns split wins against Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Midwestern State this season. Tarleton swept ENMU the first time the two met up, and ENMU returned the sweep on the second match-up.

The TexAnns also swept the Mustangs in the first match-up, but lost in five sets in the second. The TexAnns won in five sets against A&M-Commerce on October 19, but then lost in four sets later in the season.

The TexAnns also took on fellow Lone Star Conference team West Texas A&M University twice this season. The first meeting between the two teams was in Stephenville on October 4 where the TexAnns lost in four games. The second was in Canyon, and the TexAnns were swept by the Lady Buffs.

Senior setter Danielle Barker, who broke the all-time record for assists in the Angelo State game, said, “We thought this season would go a lot differently in the beginning, but we’ve worked really hard this season and it’s not over yet. This will be our true test this weekend of all the hard work we’ve put in, and hopefully it pays off in the end for us and we win the tournament and move on to regionals.”

The TexAnns will be competing in the Lone Star Conference this weekend, taking on Texas A&M University-Commerce Thursday in Canyon for game one.
