Seniors spark comeback win against No. 17 Angelo State

From senior night to breaking records and winning in an incredible comeback, the Tarleton State University TexAnn’s volleyball game Saturday afternoon, Nov. 16, was full of excitement.

The TexAnns were down 0-2 in the match against the Angelo State University Rambelles before the seniors led three comeback sets to take the last game of the regular season.

Going into the third set, neither the TexAnns nor Rambelles could break away from each other, and after the first 36 points the game was tied at 18-18. However, an ASU attack error gave the TexAnns the push they needed to go on a 7-1 run and force a game four.

Also in the third set, Danielle Barker passed former teammate Jessie Hartman to become Tarleton’s all-time assist leader, on the second point of the set, with 3,267 assists over her career.

In the fourth set, the score was tight again, but a Jazmine Green kill put the TexAnns up 11-10. The TexAnns never looked back and outscored the Rambelles 14-11 taking the fourth set 25-21 after a Stacie Murrah kill.

In the final set, Tarleton had all of the momentum and scored three straight points on ASU with kills from Green and Meg Umbel. Tarleton then took an 8-3 lead over the Rambelles, and ultimately the match, following another kill by Green.

Green had a total of 20 kills with a hitting percentage of .412 for the match. Murrah was also huge in the match with 18 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.

Barker had a double-double in the match with 46 assists and 14 digs, while fellow senior Emily Klein had 25 digs despite being injured in the second set. Also in double figures for digs, Kelsey Raglin with 21, Lacy Hodges with 19, and Katie Covell with 15.

This is the TexAnns first time to beat the Rambelles since 2006, and the win secured at least the No. 5 seed in the LSC Championship tournament Nov. 21 at The Box in Canyon.
