Klein wins LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Emily Klein, a senior libero from Amarillo, was awarded LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this volleyball season after her impressive defensive achievements against St. Mary’s and Texas A&M-Kingsville last week.

“It’s exciting to receive this award for the second time,” said Klein. “I couldn’t do it without my teammates always backing me up.”

Klein had 51 combined digs in the nine sets that she played against St. Mary’s and Texas A&M-Kingsville, 28 of the digs coming from her impressive defensive performance against the Rattlers. Klein had two service aces and only committed one receiving error in the matches.

Klein’s previous Player of the week award was from Sept.17 after the Colorado Mines Tournament. She had a combined 97 digs in the four games she played in during the tournament.

She is curretnly ranked third on the all-time TexAnn dig list and only needs to add 155 more to her current 1,313 digs to pass Sharon Lister for second place.

You can see Klein and her teammates in action this Friday at home against West Texas A&M at 6 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico State University.
