TexAnn volleyball falls to Texas Women’s University

Tarleton State University played Texas Women’s University at home on Friday Oct. 18 for the first of two games of the weekend.

Tarleton came out swinging in the first match. They let the score come to a close 14 to 13 before calling a time out, refocusing, and then coming back to win. The TexAnns had good plays all around and ended up bringing it back with a score of 25 to 23.

The second match was well played on both sides of the net. Half way through the TexAnns pulled ahead 15 to 10. Tarleton allowed TWU to catch back up, then called a time out with the score tied 22 all. The Pioneers ended up pulling ahead with a final score of 26 to 28.

The TexAnns would not give up easily taking back the third match, only allowing TWU a four-point run. The match ended with a score of 29 – 22. TWU and Tarleton fought hard the fourth match ending with TWU on top scoring 25, and the TexAnns 11.

Neither team allowed the other to take a hard lead until the Pioneers managed to score two point runs here and there. The ending score was 15 – 9 with the Texas Women’s University Pioneers winning over Tarleton.

Jazmine Green led the team with 17 kills. Stacie Murrah had 15 and Katie Covell had 13. As a team, Tarleton hit .157 to TWU’s .241 for the match.

Danielle Barker led the team with 55 assists. For digs, Emily Klein had 18, Lacy Hodges had 11, and Covell had 11.

The TexAnns are 10-8 overall and 4-3 for the conference. Tarleton will face Texas A&M Commerce Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m.
