Danielle Barker named LSC Co-Setter of the Week

Senior, Danielle Barker, was named Lone Star Conference Co-Setter of the Week after the West Texas A&M University and Eastern New Mexico.

“It is definitely an honor to be recognized in our conference because we have two top ten nationally ranked teams,” Barker said. “It is nice to be recognized for the work that not only myself but my team has put in, because I could not have gotten the award without their help.”

Barker, whose mom has been a coach since before she was born, says that she basically grew up in a gym and has played volleyball her whole life.

She had two strong games last week with 85 assists total. Barker helped the TexAnns to sweep ENMU Saturday by leading the Tarleton offence to a .360 hitting percentage.

Barker has four straight matches with at least 40 assists after the 41 assists in Friday’s match and 44 assists on Saturday.

She is second on Tarleton’s all-time assists list with 2,735 assists throughout her career, 609 of them coming from this season.

“Team goals for this year are to overcome losses and learn from mistakes so that we can use that growth at the end of season tournament,” Barker said. “My personal goal for the team is to go to regionals because we have never made it before.”
