Barker Wins second honor of the year

Danielle Barker is the Lone Star Conference Co-Setter of the Week for the second time this season, and third time in her career as a Tarleton State University TexAnn.

“It’s pretty cool that I got the award twice this year. Last year I only got it once, which was still great, but to get it twice in one year is a real honor and also to be recognized conference wise,” Barker said. “There are some pretty good setters in our conference this season that are nationally ranked, so it’s an honor to be recognized among them.”

Barker, who is currently second on Tarleton’s all-time assist list with 2,911, helped the TexAnns to two wins in three games last week. She had three straight 40-assists matches against Dallas Baptist University, Texas Woman’s University, and Texas A&M Commerce. She also added 10 kills, one service ace and five assisted blocks during the week.

The senior is 89 assists short from becoming the second TexAnn ever to pass the 3,000 assists marker, and 355 assists short of becoming the all-time leader in assists at Tarleton.

Barker is hoping to help the TexAnns to another victory Friday against Midwestern State University.
