TexAnn Volleyball finish 2-2 in Oredigger Classic

TexAnn volleyball returned home from Colorado with a tournament record of 2-2. The girls headed north on Sept. 14 for the Oredigger Classic at Colorado school of Mines in Golden, CO where they were able to beat there first two opponents, but fell just short in Saturday’s tournament.

In the first match of the tournament, the TexAnns swept Fort Lewis College. It was a hard fought win in the first set, but the girls pulled away in the next two  to clinch the match. Kaitlyn White with 12 kills and Stacie Murrah with 11 led the offense, while Emily Klien did her part on defense with 15 digs. The big story of the game however was Danielle Barker with 31 assists, which moved her into second on the all-time assists list at Tarleton.

The girls then moved on to play Western Oregon University. The match was close, but the TexAnns beat the Wolves 3-2, and Murrah, Barker, and Klein played a big role in the victory. Murrah had 26 kills on 66 attempts with a hitting percentage of .273. Barker had 58 assists and 22 digs, and Klein tied her career high with 34 digs.

The TexAnns fought hard on Saturday, but were unable to defeat two ranked teams. Their first match was against No. 6 Washburn University, and, going into five games, the girls lost the match 3-2. Barker got her sixth double-double of the season with 51 assists and 11 digs. The team was then swept in their final game against No. 19 Colorado Mines. Murrah had 13 kills, and Klein led the team with 22 digs.

On Sept. 20, the TexAnns will take on Cameron University at home.
