Following the Tarleton State University Texans’ win on Saturday, Sept. 14 at AT&T stadium, junior linebacker Marc Martinez received Lone Star Conference Co-Defensive player of the week.

Martinez led the team with 13 tackles, 7 of them unassisted.

“It’s good to get an award for the week but it all comes down to my d-line helping me because without them I wouldn’t have gotten it, so I give them the credit,” Martinez said.

In the upset win against the No. 13 ranked Midwestern State University, the Texan defense held the Mustangs to just 79 yards on the ground, the lowest rushing total the team has had since 2009.

 “I want to win conference for sure, and then go to playoffs,” Martinez said. “We would all love to go undefeated.”

The Texans will have their next game on Saturday, Sept. 21 against Angelo State University. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at Angelo Stadium.
