Tarleton’s women’s golf team was crowned champions of the 2012 Doc Housewright Invitational Tournament, hosted by Harbor Lakes Golf Club, with Sharon Lau taking first place as an individual-a performance that also garnered the sophomore “Golfer of the Week” accolades from the Lone Star Conference (LSC).

The No. 5 TexAnns shot a 589 overall, finishing four strokes ahead of second place Midwestern State and five strokes ahead of round one leaders, St. Edwards.

Sharon Lau, a native of Malaysia, shot a 71 in both rounds and finished the tournament with a score of 142, tying St. Edwards’ Wallis Spears, which resulted in a single-hole playoff. After three rounds of playoffs on the 18th hole, she came out with the victory and was named the tournament’s MVP for her efforts.

Besides Sharon Lau, fellow teammate Jacqueline Lau also medaled with a 144 overall-good enough for third place. Katy Ward tied for 11th (151), followed by Jessica Pickwick in a tie for 14th (152) and Sarah Fulfer in 67th (175).

Western Texas College finished fourth as a team while Cameron rounded out the top five.

Following the Doc Housewright Invitational, the LSC accolades announced Wednesday marked the second-straight Golfer of the Week award for Sharon Lau and the fourth for Tarleton this season. Jessica Pickwick and Jacqueline Lau have also previously been named LSC Golfers of the Week.

Looking for their fifth-straight conference title, the TexAnn golf team will return to action April 16-17, when they compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships in Trophy Club, Texas.

The TexAnn golf program is the winningest program among NCAA Division I, II and III since the 2006-07 season. Tarleton has won the last five Super Region Four titles and earned their fourth-straight LSC crown in April 2011.
