La Petite Academy, part of Tarleton State University’s Child Development Center, received the Educational Excellence Award.
La Petite offers child care for the children of Tarleton State faculty, staff, and students who need assistance in order to attend work and class, as well as some families in the Stephenville community. The academy can offer child care for children ages six weeks to four years old.
La Petite consists of 55 students and 12 teachers, with degrees ranging from associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s in elementary education, child development, and educational administration. The academy also encourages current students who have not finished their educational degrees to observe.
La Petite Academy was part of 465 academies under the Central Division of Learning Care Group that was considered for the award.
“The Educational Excellence Award is based on our teachers’ use of observation and assessment to plan and implement high-quality instruction for our students,” La Petite Director, Melinda Parker, said.
La Petite, along with the various other centers under Tarleton State Center for Child Development, are located in Moody Hall. The academy includes classrooms, both indoor and outdoor activities, and a learning laboratory.
