Lowrance hits overtime buzzer beater to win game for TexAnns

Shanae Lowrance gave the TexAnn basketball team a thrilling overtime win in the last second of the game Wednesday evening, Nov. 13. This comes just 10 months after Lowrance suffered a season-ending knee injury on January 12 of this year.

“Shanae got her fourth foul early and had to sit out a long time, said head women’s basketball coach Ronnie Hearne. “We finally got a break and I told Coach Wilson we have to get her in. She played the last eight minutes with four fouls but Shanae’s such a great kid, a great leader and you like to see good things happen to good kids.”

The TexAnns were down 73-69 after a St. Mary’s 3-pointer, going into the last minute of the game. Tarleton came back with a 3-pointer of their own to put them only down by one at 73-72.

Kiara Wright got her 19th rebound of the game on the following Rattler possession to set up the final game winning TexAnn possession.

In the final 5:34 of regulation the TexAnns had a seven-point lead over the Rattlers, but St. Mary’s came back with an 11-4 run to even the score at 66-66 with only 47 seconds left on the clock.

The TexAnns then turned the ball over with 32 seconds left in the game giving the Rattlers a chance to take the game.

Kathy Thomas was then able to stop the Rattler’s top-scorer of the night in open space and block the final shot of regulation and force the game into overtime.

Wright had a dominating performance getting her first double-double of the season, and 15th straight dating back to last year, with 32 points and 19 rebounds.  She also moved into 18th place on Tarleton’s all-time scoring list, and fourth place on Tarleton’s all-time rebounding list.

Thomas also had a strong game putting up 18 points on 6-13 shooting. Together, Thomas and Wright combined for 50 of Tarleton’s 74 total points.

Brianna Bledsoe and Lowrance each had eight points, while Meagen O’Dell and Karli Moore added four each.

This game marks Tarleton’s 19th consecutive home opening victory.

The TexAnns will be taking the court this weekend in the first annual TexAnn Tip-Off Classic presented by Whataburger. They will be taking on Fort Lewis College at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, and Lubbock Christian University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
