Tarleton’s baseball and softball teams win their series over the weekend

On March 22, Tarleton State University’s baseball team faced West Texas A&M University with a double header. Tarleton wone the first game, 4-3, but lost the second game, 5-4.

In the first game, the score was tied at 2 runs apiece. This lead to the ninth inning when Tarleton’s Evan Robinson scored the lead run to make it a 3-2 contest.

The second game of the day the Buffs came out swinging to take an early 3 run lead in the second inning.

In the fourth inning, Rustin Thomas drew a base due to a walk and would eventually move to third when the Buffs committed an error that would put Fola Lajide on base. Jared Musgrove scored Thomas from third with a sacrifice out and Lajide would eventually score to make it a 3-2 still favoring the Buffs.

In the fifth inning, Alvaro Moreno hit a single that would drive in a run to tie the game at 3 runs.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Texans would see their first lead of the game when Moreno hit a double, followed by stealing third base, then being scored on a sacrifice hit by Ryan Small making it 4-3.

With a leadoff single followed by a double, the Buffs would tie the game in the seventh inning.

With the tie game in extra innings, the Buffs would eventually win the contest in the tenth when the Buffs hit a game winning single.

The next day, however, Tarleton came out with a big 6-2 win over the Buffs.

In the first, Moreno grounded into a double play, but would score Moran to make it a 1-0 game in favor of the Texans.

Then in the fourth inning, West Texas A&M scored to tie it at 1 run apiece.

In the fifth inning, Tarleton reclaimed the lead at 2-1 when Noah Ringenber scored Musgrove. Then due to two errors on WTA’s part, Tarleton upped the score to 4-1.

In the Buff’s side of the fifth inning, they scored by advancing runners with a single to make it a 4-2 game.

In the sixth and the seventh, Tarleton tacked on two more points, which would be all the scoring done in this Tarleton win.

In the last game of the four game stand on March 24, Tarleton won the series with a 9-7 win over the Buffs.

WTA took an early lead over TSU in the first when they scored by moving runners due to a base hit.

In the second Tarleton came back and tied the game when Thomas hit a triple and scored Small.

Tarleton scored two more runs in the second from a double and a single to make it a 3-1 game.

In the Buff’s side of the second inning, they took advantage of an out to score a sacrifice run making it a 3-2 game.

Tarleton struck back in the third when Small hit a triple to score Moreno and in the fourth when Ringenber hit an RBI single that scored Lajide to make it a 5-2 game.

In the fourth, WTA hit a two-run homerun that made the score 5-4.

In the fifth and sixth inning, Tarleton scored four runs to make it 9-4 when Small hit a two-run homerun and Ringenber hit a triple to score Nico Moran. Ringenber came to score due to a balk.

In the sixth inning, WTA scored a run and in the ninth they scored two runs, but that is all they could get out of the Texan’s defense.

Last weekend, the TexAnns faced off against Abilene Christian University.

In the first game, the Tarleton softball team won 5-2.

To start the scoring for Tarleton, in the third inning, Arianna Rodriguez hit a two-run homerun to make it 2-0 Tarleton.

Due to some mistakes on Tarleton’s end, ACU tied the game in the fifth.

In the last inning of the game, the TexAnns scored three runs to give the game a final score of 5-2 in Tarleton’s favor.

In the Saturday doubleheader, Tarleton won the first game 5-3 and lost the second game 7-1.

In the first game, ACU took to the scoreboard first and made it a 2-0 game.

Tarleton was quick to answer when Amber Clifford hit a double that scored McKaylee Pitman to make it a 2-1 game.

Tarleton would tack on to their score in the fourth inning when Pittman scored Bailee Maldin on a single making it a 2-2 game.

In the next inning, Tarleton took the lead when Mauldin hit a two run single to score Eryn Freitas and Kelsey Latta to make it a 4-2 game in Tarleton’s favor.

ACU answered back by scoring a run in the fifth to make it a 4-3 game.

Tarleton would score one more run when Arianna Rodriguez scored Melody Mayse on a sacrifice out to make a 5-3 game.

In the second game of the day, Shelby Tinklepaugh scored Freitas on a single, but that is all Tarleton’s offense wrote for the day.

In the sixth inning, ACU scored seven runs to get to the final score of 7-1 ACU.
