Sports to watch for this week

Tarleton State University sports have finally kicked off this year after a delayed start. Tarleton’s Division 1 career has been off to a good start so far.
Sports such as Football and Volleyball are reaching the end of their first Division 1 season while others still have a way to go. The Football season will come to an end on April 1. Baseball and Softball have just reached the middle of their seasons. Tennis will be finishing off their season this month with five games left; Women and Men’s Track and Field are getting into the middle of their season and still have many meets to go and; lastly Golf has two more meets to go after placing first in the Prarie View A&M University (PVAMU) Panther Relays Spring Invitational.
This week, the Texan Football team will be finishing up their first-ever Division 1 Football season. The Texans will be going up against East Central University on Thursday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The Texans have played East Central University twice before, at home and away, and both matchups were victorious for Tarleton State.
Tarleton and East Central’s last matchup was in September of 2009 at Memorial Stadium. The Texans dominated the Tigers in the first half of the game, with a score of 34-0. In the second half of the game, Tarleton was able to score another touchdown and East Central racked two points on the clock from a safety. The end score was 41-2 leaving Tarleton State with a win. Come support the Texans tomorrow at 6 p.m. as they end their first Division 1 season.
This week Tarleton Baseball will have a series of home games. The Texans will be playing tomorrow, April 1 through Saturday, April 3. The Texans will be playing Dixie State on Thursday at 3 p.m., Friday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m. Tarleton Baseball has had a good season overall with having eight home games, 15 away games and two neural games, with a record of eight wins and 13 losses. This will be the Texans’ first-time playing Dixie State. Make sure to support the Texans tomorrow, Friday and Saturday at home at the Cecil Ballow Complex.
The Softball team has had an impressive first Division 1 season as well. The Texans have played 33 games so far with three being home, 17 being away and 13 being neutral. They have won 11 games and lost 19. This week the Texans are battling Dixie State. They will be playing Dixie State on their home turf in St. George, Utah at Karl Brooks Field. They are playing a three-game match on Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3. The Texans will be playing Dixie State on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. then on Saturday, at 1 p.m. You can watch the Texans play Dixie State on Dixie States Sports website at www.wacdigitalnetwork.com/dixiestate/.
The Tarleton Tennis team started their Division 1 season back in January against Texas Christian University (TCU). Since then they have played 12 more games, with two being home, eight being away and three neutral. They have won six games and lost seven. This week the Texans will play two more games starting on Friday, April 2 and ending on Saturday, April 3. On Friday, the Texans will play New Mexico State in Edinburg, TX at 8 a.m. On Saturday, they will play the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in Edinburg, TX at 9 a.m. The last time the Texans played New Mexico State was February 2018, and that game resulted in a loss and the Texans played them before that and that game also resulted in a loss. However, the Texans played UTRGV back in January of 2021 and that game resulted in a 6-1 win for the Texans.
In Tarleton Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, so far, the team has participated in three meets. The Texans started their Division 1 season a few weeks ago on March 19 in Abilene. The Texans will be running at the University of Texas at Arlington invitational on Saturday, April 3 in Arlington, TX.
The Tarleton Golf team started their Division 1 season back in February. The Texans will be playing in the Oral Roberts Spring Invite next week on Monday, April 12 through Tuesday, April 13 in Broken Arrow, OK at The Club at Indian Springs.
